Board Meeting Minutes January 13, 2026
Meeting: Called to order at 7:02 pm by Supervisor Jager
Pledge of Allegiance: Led by All
Roll call by Clerk Murat: Trustee Jager, Trustee Brant, Clerk Murat, Treasurer Halbower, Supervisor Jager, all present.
Motion 1-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve December 9th, 2025, meeting minutes, support by Trustee Brant, Motion carries.
Motion 2-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve payment of the bills as presented, support by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.
Business from the floor:
Peter VanDop, Lot 16 Round Lake Association, requested permission from the board to make improvements to the road, asking for a motion to be made to present to the Muskegon County Road Commission to move forward.
Motion 3-1-26 by Clerk Murat for Peter VanDop to make improvement to the Raymond Rd right of way from the West gate to the East Gate. All said work shall be in compliance with the MCRC and properly insured by Mr. VanDop. Support by Trustee Brant.
Roll call vote: Supervisor Jager, yes. Treasurer Halbower, yes. Trustee Jager, no. Clerk Murat, yes. Trustee Brant, yes. Motion carries.
Motion 4-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve Treasurer’s report as presented, support by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
Department reports:
Inspections- 3 new permits for a total of $644.00
Fire Department- 2025 Breakdown- 398 total calls with 93 mutual aids.
January 2026- 32 calls, 27 Holton Township and 5 Cedar Creek Township and 1 Fremont with 8 Mutual Aids.
Ordinance- Update on the house at 8225 Holton Rd, the township will wait until spring when the snow clears to move forward with the enforcement (demolition) of the 97 Dangerous Buildings Act.
7950 McFarland, a letter was sent extending the date to comply with the salvage ordinance to July 4th, 2026, due to homeowner being a 100% disabled vet and needs assistance to clear the yard. Will continue to monitor.
7834 Holton Rd, complaint that garbage was strewn about the property along with a camper being lived in. Two letters sent, owners have complied. Case closed.

Motion 5-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve the hiring of 2 additional firefighters, support by Trustee Brant. Motion Carries
Motion 6-1-26 by Clerk Murat to approve the re-appointment of Cheyenne Williams, Louis Slater and Bill Halbower for a 3-year term to the Planning Commission, support by Trustee Jager Motion carries.
Motion 7-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve the re-appointment of Chyenne Williams, Dennis Peterson, Linda White and alternate Josie Derby for a 2-year term to the Board of Review, support by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
Motion 8-1-26 by Clerk Murat to approve the re-appointment of Dave White for a 3-year term to the Park Commission, support by Trustee Jager Motion carries.
Motion 9-1-26 by Clerk Murat to switch internet/phone provider over to Comcast, support by Supervisor Jager. Nay- Trustee Jager. Yay- Clerk Murat, Treasurer Halbower, Trustee Brant, Supervisor Jager. Motion carries.
Motion 10-1-26 by clerk Murat to approve Resolution 01-01-26 to switch the in house 9 day Early Voting over to the Muskegon County Clerk’ office, support by Supervisor Jager.

Motion 11-1-26 by Trustee Jager to approve of writing a letter to the MADL board members in support of Julie Vanderboegh as librarian at Holton Township Library, support by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
