Board Meeting Minutes – February 11, 2025

Meeting: called to order at 7:00pm by Supervisor Jager.

Pledge of Allegiance: led by Trustee Brant.

Roll call by Clerk Murat:

Supervisor Jager, Trustee Jager, Trustee Brant, Clerk Murat, Treasurer Halbower and all present.

Motion 1-2-25 by Trustee Brant to approve January 14, 2025 meeting minutes, supported by Trustee Jager. Motion carries.

Motion 2-2-25 by Trustee Jager to approve payment of bills as presented, supported by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.

Business from the floor:

            Treasurer Halbower discussed ongoing additions to the Syers Rd Park, including pickle pall court, basketball court and shed. Board discussed the Senior Plow program, 2024-2025 allocated funds were used up with the last storm. Additional funds were available from previous years so we are able to continue the service for now.

Motion 3-2-25 by Trustee Jager to approve treasurer’s report as presented, supported by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.

Department reports:

            Library- We welcomes new staff member, Jenn Spangler. Attendance at Family Story Time continues to grow. Working on spring/summer programming. GVSU continues to use the conference room weekly for educational counseling. Craft Club meets on Wednesdays. Author meet and greet scheduled for July 26th. Kim Archer in now on MADL board.

Cemetery- Julie inquired if Harley would be working the cemetery this summer, Supervisor Jager will inquire.

            Fire Dept- 32 calls in January. 24 Holton 8 Cedar Creek and 3 Mutual Aid

            Inspections- 8 new permits for $1,097.00.

Motion 4-2-25 by Trustee Jager to appoint Tony Beattie to the Construction Board of Appeals for a 2 year term, supported by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.

Discussions on 218 Agreement/Pension Plan were tabled for a future meeting so we could get more information.

Holton Days Committee requested road closures for Holton Community Days.         

Motion 5-2-25 by Trustee Jager for resolution that board close Hoppman Rd from M120 to Holton Duck Lake, Holton Duck Lake from Holton Whitehall Rd to 3rd St from 11am Friday July 25th until 7am July 27th, supported by Clerk Murat, motion carries.

Future business:

 Town Hall needs study update. Supervisor Jager met with someone willing to do the footwork on finding and writing grants for free until they are sure enough funds would be secured for the project. Supervisor Jager will also meet with Senators to discuss options.

Supervisor Jager met with the teacher from the school’s Geometry in Construction class about building a band shell in the Severt Swenson Park. They will work on draft drawings and materials list.
