Board Meeting Minutes – January 14, 2025
Meeting: called to order at 7:00pm by Supervisor Jager.
Pledge of Allegiance: led by Trustee Brant.
Roll call by Clerk Murat:
Trustee Brant, Supervisor Jager, Clerk Murat, Treasurer Halbower and Trustee Jager all present.
Motion 1-1-25 by Trustee Jager to approve December 10, 2024 meeting minutes, supported by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.
Motion 2-1-25 by Trustee Jager to approve payment of bills as presented, supported by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.
Business from the floor:
Commissioner Brett Herman, 11385 Sherman of Ravenna, wanted to introduce himself as Muskegon County’s new County Commissioner and asked if the board had any questions or concerns.
Motion 3-1-25 by Trustee Jager to approve Treasurer’s report as presented, supported by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.
Department reports:
Library- GVSU has been using the conference room weekly for educational counseling. Library is closed 1-20-25 for Martin Luther King Day. Story time has changed to Friday’s starting February. Book Club meeting is 1-28-25. Scheduling spring programing.
Fire Department- 36 calls in December. Annual report, 404 total runs. 58% rescue and emergency medical, 7.2% fires, 12.4% good intent, 10.7% service calls, 9.95% hazardous conditions (non fire), 1.24% false alarms/calls, .5% special incidents. In 2024 they took delivery of new engine, 1921, personnel trained, and engine put into service. Took delivery of 1980, old rescue, and converted to brush truck, personnel trained, and truck put into service. Through fundraising and donations they purchased an auto pulse CPR system, personnel trained and it was put into service. Community Outreach- open houses, football games, school functions, events in Cedar Creek Township and Sportsman for Youth. The department had over 50 hours of fire training, 80 hours medical training and over 370 hours of equipment checks and station care.
Inspections- 14 new permits for $1926.
Ordinance- Working on lot next to apartments on Holton Duck Lake with unapproved out buildings and many noise complaints.
Correspondence:
Streetscape Bid Results- 4 bids. Low bid by McCormick Sand Inc. at $794,682. Includes resurfacing road, new sidewalks and lighting to begin this spring. Supervisor Jager to email road commission to get clarification on start and completion dates. Project covered mostly by grants.
County Chemical Fee Program- Writing a letter to the Muskegon County Emergency Management to opt out. We were told there was no fee and would not be billed.
Gazebo- Supervisor Jager reached out to the Holton Geometry in Construction Class about adding a gazebo to the park on Main St with supplies paid for by township. Supervisor Jager will connect with them and get a design plan and supply list cost.
Unfinished business:
Town hall space/needs study- Supervisor Jager to meet someone to discuss writing and obtaining grants for this project, tabled for future meeting.
New business:
EPS- The representative reached out to offer updated alarm system. All in agreement that it is not needed at this time,
Reappointments-
Motion 4-1-25 by Trustee Jager to reappoint Mr Eastling and Ms Coon to the Planning Commission, supported by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
Motion 5-1-25 by Trustee Brant to reappoint Trustee Jager and Mr Straub to the Zoning Board of Appeals, supported by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
Motion 6-1-25 by Trustee Jager to reappoint Mr Monette and Mr Slater to the Construction Board of Appeals, supported by Clerk Murat. Motion carries.
Supervisor Jager will search for a 3rd member to join.
Motion 7-1-25 by Trustee Jager to reappoint Mrs Kittel and Treasurer Halbower to the Park Commission, supported by Trustee Brant. Motion carries.
Future business: No new business.
